Mexican Clarisa Temelo remains at the top leaderboard despite struggling during Round 3 at the Women’s Amateur Latin America. The 18-year-old settled with even par 71, but now three strokes ahead of her closest competitors: fellow countrywoman Cory Lopez (68) and the only player from Barbados, Emily Odwin (70).

Third round at Lima Golf Club has proven tough for all participants. Only four players were able to play under par, namely Lopez and Odwin, and Colombian Luana Valero (68) ad Louisiane Gauthier (69) from Uruguay.

Mexican Clarisa Temelo, 18, underlined her status as the top-ranked player in the field to impressively claim the early lead at the Women’s Amateur Latin America championship (WALA) in Peru. The World No.136 shot a bogey free round 6-under 65 under the windy condition at Lima Golf Club and currently five strokes ahead of 17-year-old Luana Valero of Colombia and her compatriot 30-year-old Silvia Garces, along with 24-year-old Lauren Grinberg of Brazil.

Historical week in Peru is starting today with the 4th edition of Women’s Amateur Latin America at Lima Golf Club. This is the first time the championship is held in Peru, with the host celebrating its 100th anniversary.

While defending champion Ela Anacona (third from the left) of Argentina is ready to defend her title, local girls Luisamariana Mesones and Maria Salinas of Peru (the first two from the left), with Mexican Clarisa Temelo will also competing to write their own history.

Winner of the Women’s Amateur Latin America will exempt to play the AIG Women’s Open, The Chevron Championship, and The Amundi Evian Championship in 2025. The winner will also receive an exemption into The Women’s Amateur Championship and the top three an exemption into The Hilton Grand Vacations ANNIKA Invitational presented by Rolex (given age eligibility).

Women’s Amateur Latin America presented by The R&A and ANNIKA Foundation was established to nurture talent and provide a pathway for the region’s elite women amateurs to the international stage and the opportunity to play in three major championships.

Rikuya Hoshino will strenghten the Japanese presence as he successcully fulfiled his dream of securing his status on PGA TOUR for the 2025 season. He won the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters earlier this year with another six top-10s to finished 9th in the DP World Tour Eligibility Ranking. He will join compatriots Hideki Matsuyama, Ryo Hisatsune, and Kaito Onishi on the American-based circuit next year.

”Just by making it to the stage of playing on the PGA TOUR has been my goal since I started playing golf, so it is really exciting,” said Hoshino.

Only 11 players finished their second round with players from the afternoon session unable to start including first round leader Randy Arbenata Mohamad Bintang. The play commenced on 13:00 local time with Japanese Rintaro Nakano jumped to the top leaderboard with five holes to play.

These fine amateurs will fight their way to be the first Indonesian to play Masters Tournament when the prestigious amateur championship started Thursday (3/10) in Taiheiyo Club Gotemba in Japan. Rayhan Abdu Latief, Randy Arbenata Mohamad Bintang, and Kenneth Henson Sutianto marks their return to the Championship with this edition will be the 3rd appearance for Rayhan and Randy, and will be the 2nd for Kenneth and Hansel, but will be the first time for William.

They will face the test of the 70 pars and 6.599 meters course, which was first designed by Japanese Shunsuke Kato and later renovated by Rees Jones with consultation from 2021 Masters Champion and 2010-2011 Asia-Pacific Amateur Champion Hideki Matsuyama.
